Early childhood & school readiness
Big futures begin with books, words, and caring adults.
Methuen Literacy Partnership helps families build early reading skills before kindergarten—through free books, family-friendly activities, and support in the places families already trust.
Why this matters
Every child deserves to start school ready to learn.
Many Methuen children enter kindergarten already behind in early reading skills. In our 2025 community survey, families told us that language barriers, limited access to books, and too few early-literacy opportunities make it harder to prepare young children for school. Together, we can change that.
67%of incoming Methuen kindergarteners were below benchmark at the beginning of the school year.
0–5 is the age range when families can build the strong foundation children need for kindergarten.
